Ideal for use in turnaround/shutdown procedures, hot work maintenance, confined space entry work and many other utility, construction and oil and gas industry applications.
Rugged and robust, Detective+ features either fixed or folding legs and a protective frame that allows stacking for easier storage.
Available with an optional internal pump for sampling versatility, alarms are announced with an extremely loud sounder, while multiple beacons ensure 360 degree visibility.
Detective+ may now also be equipped with infra-red (IR) sensors, providing either CO2 detection, or allowing higher levels of flammable gas monitoring. IR sensors also provide immunity to the poisoning effects which standard flammable gas sensors can suffer from. This extends sensor life and further increases measurement confidence in tough applications such as water treatment plants and certain chemical or hydrocarbon processing facilities. Detective+ can be specified with a wide range of sensors, including hydrogen, to monitor a wide range of gases which pose a variety of threats.

This personal multi–gas monitor can detect methane, pentane or propane using infrared (IR) technology. Our Gas-Pro IR helps customers detecting potentially explosive gases where traditional, “pellistor,” catalytic sensors will struggle – especially in low oxygen or ‘poisoning’ environments.
The infrared measurement gives improved reliability and measures gas in two different wavelengths: one that absorbs gas and the other does not. With little chance of being poisoned, the Gas-Pro IR personal multi gas detector is inherently safer and saves the need of regular and expensive pellistor replacement when used in likely contaminated environments.
The Gas-Pro personal multi gas detectors are known for their simple use and functionality as well as easy testing and calibration. The Gas-Pro IR now completes the Gas-Pro range and gives greater flexibility for sensor selection in this 5-gas multigas detector.
IR Technology
Infrared emitters within the sensor each generate beams of IR light . Each beam is of equal intensity and is deflected by a mirror within the sensor on to a photo-receiver, which measures the level of IR received. The “measuring” beam, with a frequency of around 3.3μm, is absorbed by hydrocarbon gas molecules, so the beam intensity is reduced . The “reference” beam (around 3.0μm) is not absorbed, so arrives at the receiver at full strength.
The %LEL of gas present is determined by the difference in intensity between the beams measured by the photo-receiver.
IR sensors are reliable in some environments that can cause pellistor-based sensors to function incorrectly or in some cases fail:
In some industrial environments, pellistors are at risk of being poisoned or inhibited. This leaves worker on their shift unprotected. IR sensors are not susceptible so significantly enhance safety in these conditions.
Exposure to high levels of flammable gas can cause “sooting” of pellistors, reducing their sensitivity and potentially leading to failure Pellistors require oxygen to function. However, IR sensors can be relied on in applications such as fuel storage tanks where there is little or no oxygen, due to flushing with inert gas prior to maintenance or which still contain high levels of fuel vapours.
The fail-safe nature of IR sensors, which automatically alert you to any fault, provides an additional layer of safety.
Gas-Pro IR measures in %LEL and has been certified for use in hazardous areas as defined by both ATEX/IECEx and UL.

TWA Resume
Unique to T4, the TWA Resume function ensures toxic gas exposure is calculated accurately over an entire shift, even if T4 is switched off for a break or during travel to another site.
When most portable detectors are turned off, the algorithm that assesses TWA exposure assumes that it’s the end of the shift. When turned on again, these detectors act as if it is a new work shift, ignoring all previous measurements. The TWA Resume function however, provides the option to include previous measurements from within the correct time frame.
18 hour battery
With a battery life of 18 hours, T4 allows multiple or longer shifts to be worked between recharging.
Positive Safety
Crowcon’s visual ‘traffic light’ indication, provides constant visual assurance that T4 is operating soundly and conforms to site bump test & calibration policy.
